On Wednesday, April 18, Essex County Commissioner A'Dorian Murray-Thomas honored a group of Black Women in honor of Black Women's History Month and Autism Education & Awareness Month.

Our President, Jasmine Metellus, was recognized for her work to the Essex County Young Democrats and her role as Political & Government Relations Manager for the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. We are beyond proud of her accomplishment and for her leadership to this organization!

The other honorees included:

  • Dr. Dorothy Handfield, a leading educator and researcher supporting the interests of autistic children.

  • Shoshanna Page, the Senior Policy and Communications Strategist to Mayor Ras J. Baraka and expert in NJ urban policy.

  • Fajr Kegler, a youth Organizer for the South Ward Environmental Alliance (SWEA), spoken word artist, emerging leader and imminent college graduate.

  • Amanda Ebokosia, the founder & CEO of The Gem Project, Inc., dedicated to uplifting and empowering youth.

We are proud of the leaders that Essex County has and are grateful for Commissioner A'Dorian Murray-Thomas and Commissioner Carols M. Pomares for shining a spotlight on the incredible work done here in Essex County!
